Intermedia is a research group founded in 2014 by researchers from four Polish universities specializing in audiovisual translation (AVT) and media accessibility. Our aim is to undertake joint research initiatives, such as research projects and organization of a conference devoted to audiovisual translation.

By cooperating, we want to contribute to the development of research on AVT and research methodology (for instance by conducting experimental studies involving eye-tracking). We try to discover new research areas within AVT (such as respeaking or correlations between working memory and cognitive load in audio description). We hope that our cooperation and joint initiatives will help translate AVT and media accessibility research results into tangible effects – such as higher quality translations, improved translation training and greater media accessibility for the visually and aurally impaired. Our plan is also to launch a scientific journal to serve as an excellent medium for exchanging research results in the area of audiovisual translation.
